People don't know nuthin'. They base life on ancient writings by multiple people and call it "The Rules". One 'Rule' I agree with is "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." If you can stick to that, you got it made in the shade. Peace.

Properly translated from the original Hebrew, the phrase is: You shall not murder. Look at a Jewish version of the Ten Commandments: http://www.hebrew4christians.com/Scripture/Torah/Ten_Cmds/ten_cmds.html
Killing in self defense, a just war, and lawful capital punishment are not considered murder.
However many Christians including Catholics believe most modern governments no longer need to use capital punishment to protect society from criminals.
The “just war” doctrine requires rigorous consideration to determine if defense by military force is legitimate.
Offensive war is never justified.
All the following considerations must be true to justify war:
1. The damage inflicted by the aggressor on the nation or community of nations must be lasting, grave, and certain;
2. All other means of putting an end to it must have been shown to be impractical or ineffective;
3. There must be serious prospects of success;
4. The use of arms must not produce evils and disorders graver than the evil to be eliminated.
It has been argued the pre-war Iraq:
1. Was not inflicting lasting, grave and certain damage to the United States;
2. Could have been influenced by diplomatic and international sanctions.
It is argued now that:
3. There is not a serious prospect of success;
4. The use of arms has produced evils and disorders greater than the evil eliminated.
The "new" philosophy of the United States to launch wars to get them before they get us can even be argued as an offensive war which would not be justified.
Atrocities commited by either side are murder, covered by the just war theory, and therefore break the commandment under discussion.
With love in Christ.

Yes it is one of the commandments. People can be Taught Anything. And they can also CHOOSE to do Anything.
We have free will. I take it like this. The world is far from a perfect place, and many do not believe in God or choose to honor His commandments. They can repent and be forgiven, if they realize what they have done is wrong, and accept God into their lives, go to Heaven ect....If they choose not to do so, they will answer for their actions of judgement day. Because once again it is a CHOICE they made. The reasons we made the choices we made do not matter when we stand before Him, only what we did.
They aren't going to go to hell just because they have done it, but they will if they do not stop, repent, and accept the Lord into their heart. Just like anything else. Lying, adultery, taking His name is vain.....or any other sin. A sin, is a sin, is a sin, they can ALL (not sure about the suicide one) before forgiven, that is why the Lord died on the cross. FOR MANKINDS SIN.
So the answer to your question is no, they are not "barred from heaven"

No not at all! Alot of solders in the Army, Military, etc are not taught to kill, there taught to defend themselves if there attacked it's not like there going around killing everyone because that's what they no. Yes that is a commandment, but also God is a forgiving God, he understands every situation, and its different for a solider or anyone else for that matter to kill or harm someone else rather then let there own life be taken!

You're kidding right? You can "kill" anyone with just cause. God killed lots of people. We can't murder someone because that would be without a just cause.
Besides the bible says whoever hates his brother without cause has already murdered him in his heart. How many people have you murdered in your heart, I wonder??? And that is a very real answer.

actually i have read a piece of writing from a spirit guide on this topic
and i am sure i will get many thumbs down for this as not many people seem to like my beliefs ( which is cool )
but the spirit guide did speak about people thinking they were doing Gods work and also thinking that their loyalty to their country was important
but it has created in times of big wars ... a lot of problems in spirit
people are dying before they are meant to and dying for the wrong reasons
these people are not bad people ... just misinformed
but spirit world is filled at these times with many confused souls in need of healing and care

You are exactly right, according to the Word death by the hands of men is only allowed when God issues it as a command in regard to His judgement or wrath, such was the case with the Israelites killing the inhabitants of the Promised Land.
Deuteronomy 9
After the LORD your God has driven them out before you, do not say to yourself, "The LORD has brought me here to take possession of this land because of my righteousness." No, it is on account of the wickedness of these nations that the LORD is going to drive them out before you. 5 It is not because of your righteousness or your integrity that you are going in to take possession of their land; but on account of the wickedness of these nations, the LORD your God will drive them out before you, to accomplish what he swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. 6 Understand, then, that it is not because of your righteousness that the LORD your God is giving you this good land to possess, for you are a stiff-necked people.
All military actions decided by men and not God are a violation of the commandment. Capital punishment is the same, it is only vindicated by the Lord if those who cast the judgement do so in the name of God and prayer; therefore, all executions in the U.S. are really in violation of the commandment.
Ancient Israel was supposed to be set up as a theocracy, thus military actions and judgements were supposed to be in accordance with God, except that the men running the country specifically the kings were not following God.

Yes, it is, but no they should not.
There is honor in serving one's country. And the Bible does say that sometimes killing your enemy is necessary.
Killing, in order to protect yourself, your family, or your home is NOT murder. Therefore, it is not a sin.
