A friend of mine says he's an Atheist. He doesn't believe in God(s), and Goddess(es).
However he says he believes in reincarnation. He believes in this: "when you die you come back to life in another baby with no memory of your past one".
Does that still make him an Atheist?

Yes.

Atheism is the lack of belief or disbelief in deity/ies.

That is the only necessary belief. You can believe in spiritual things and not believe in deities.

No, actually that is quite feasible. If I remember 7th grade history correctly, I believe it is Buddhism that teaches the belief of reincarnation (there was a section about Asia and the religious history). Reincarnation has nothing to do with God(s) and/or Godess(es), so you are left to put your own twist on it. I don't even remember either Buddhism or Hinduism forces a God on the followers, but I'm not sure, and No, Buddah didn't regard himself as a God that I know of (yes, he was a real living person), though some worship him as such. You can believe it is an inanimately recurring cycle if you want, there are no guidelines on religion. I, for one, do not believe in reincarnation, I believe in the Christain teachings, but not the "no seccular music" ideas, etc. I just don't like satanic music or anything. Have your own beliefs, but leave mine alone. To sum it up, it is possible but it is an abstract question to ponder. Good question by the way.

Yes, your friend can be atheist despite believing in reincarnation. What makes someone an atheist is believing there is no god. That belief is the only thing all atheists have in common. They can be completely different in other ways, which is one of the reasons why atheism isn't really a religion as such.

on condition that atheism is in basic terms the shortcoming of concept in god/gods, confident, they might have faith in reincarnation - yet maximum do no longer, because of the comparable loss of knowledge that there is for gods, souls, afterlives often. Dr. Ian Stevenson did some thrilling analyze on reincarnation, yet plenty (examine: maximum) different scientists are tremendously doubtful approximately it. Make of that what you will. maximum atheists don't think in any afterlife, no longer heaven, hell, or reincarnation. once you die, you're in basic terms lifeless. no longer there to any extent further. ETA: I forgot appropriate to the Buddhists. confident, they suspect in reincarnation. And cgrover, there is not any longer something that asserts you come back back as an *animal*. the assumption is to be reborn as someone. in spite of the shown fact that i does no longer techniques being an otter for a lifetimeor 2 - they seem to continuously have exciting.

I guess it's because reincarnation could exist without a God.
