I offer a mild apology to Christians and Jews, considering that their religions appear to have managed to co-exist with technology and human progress to some degree.

"adapt" might have been the better word.

The people that believe in religion are not likely to contribute to human progress even if they stopped believing. Having said that there would be less wars and donations to charity might end up where it should go. I suspect the stupid people would find some other way to f*** things up though

Are you serious? Christianity set humanity back by 800 - to - 1000 years... it is directly responsible for the Dark Ages. If it weren't for Christianity, Christopher Columbus would have been going off to set up a mining colony in the asteroid belt, or something like that, instead of looking for a shortcut to the Orient, and trying to prove that the world is round.

Hmm, 'progress' and 'technology' without religion managed to kill over 100 million people in the last decade.

Not bad considering its relatively young age.

Now, will 'human progress' eventually evolve to the point where religion is unnecessary?

Probably

But that might be awhile.

OK HISTORY LESSON: the united states was founded on DEMOCRACY(somewhat), thats why theres something called separation of church and state. Next, to answer your question i think human progress will accelerate exponentially since instead of people wasting their time studying the a fictious book they will find cures to serious diseases like cancer and also invent useful tools for human kind, and develop a sense of faith on themselves instead of religious mythology which leads to ignorance most of the time.

the western world being "allowed" to progress is a fairly new thing in relationship to the age of religion. we were as primitive as eastern cultures not all that long ago
and YES, we would progress if the religious folk did not interfere every f**king 5 minutes O_o

You are living under a very unenlightened enlightenment view of humanity that believes we are all basically good to the core when the truth is very far from it.

The only thing that keeps civilization affloat is God and him alone. We've seen what happens when atheistic leaders gain power and its pretty silly that humanity has to keep learning that lesson over and over again.

OK, History lesson: The United States was founded because of Chrsitians, and it's constitiution is base on Christian morals. Remeber? I think that The U.S. was a pretty good accomplishment. Praise the Lord for what HE has accomplished!

I have no doubt that some kind of theism will always exist (unless a cure is found), however, in a more educated and science-focused society, theism will be frowned upon and theists will retreat back into the shadows.
