My sister had the same problem. What my parents did was get up in the middle of the night, and take her to the bathroom and actually go, so that way she learned to get up in the middle of the night by herself if she had to go. They also wouldn't let her drink anything after 7:30 or 8-ish. After she got the hang of that, they made it like a game. For example, if she didn't wet the bed all week, then she could have a friend spend the night, or something along those lines. We also made her go to the bathroom right before she went to bed and right when she woke up. But medicines didn't seem to work for her either, so you could try that.

This might be a possible medical problem, he could have a life threatening condition like kidney stones forming and eventually causing a blockage, kids his age do some times have some real serious medical problems like this at this age although it is rare. Keep asking the doctor about it and watch him and if he tells you he has any pain take note of it, if he has any severe pain or vomitting going along with it take him to a doctor immediately. Have them xray him now.
If it is some thing simple like not giving him to much to drink before he goes to bed at night and reinforcing that he uses the bathroom before he goes to sleep that is another thing you might try. Don't give up on him and don't try to make him feel bad about it, he may really not be able to help it.

Usually this sort of thing is hereditary. Boys tend to have this problem more than girls, so ask your husband if he or any of his immediate relatives had this problem. Regardless, if this is purely a physical condition it is something that will be outgrown around puberty if not before. I'd keep him off meds if they aren't helping, maybe see that he has two alarm clocks in his room, one to wake him up in the middle of the night so he can use the bathroom, and most importantly be supportive and non-critical of him.
Therapy might be good as well. If this is a recent development, therapy is highly recommended as there is possibly an emotional reason or insecurity that could be causing this.

I know that lots of children have problems with wetting the bed. I think there's actually a device that will wake up your son when he has a full bladder.
They also sell diapers in all different sizes. This may be embarrassing for him, but it will help.
I'm pretty sure that this is something that he will soon outgrow.
Assure him that this is common, and that there is nothing to be ashamed of.

My GP told my cousin for her 7 years old son that, "ask him to go pee before bed", then wake him up in an hour or two". I' d try acupuncture as it worked on my husband when he was about 11! :)
Sometimes there is problem of the urinary bladder or the tube...something like retention problem.
Chinese medicine also works but not as fast....

Be patient. 8 years old is still young.
You may be putting undo pressure on him which could make things worst.
He needs to know you love him, regardless of the problem. In fact, if he urinates in bed, give him a big huge and kiss.
Love is the best medicine of all!

there are machines that help a child know when he has a full bladder. My little boy(well technically he is now 23 yrs old) used to wet his bed too. you should see that he is tucked in carefully and he is warm at night. My son used to wet the bed becasue at night he would start to feel really cold and he would not realize when he wet the bed. Make sure your son is warm in his bed even if it is a hot day.

i have a 5 year old that does the same thing. We just wake him 2 to 3 times a night to go. I hope that eventually if he gets use to us waking him, he'll get up by himself and go. Maybe your son just needs a little help a couple times a night to going to the bathroom. We also stopped him from drinking liquids at 7pm and after. If you get up to go, take him before or after you

Use a bell and pad
Ask him not to drink any fluids after 8pm
If he wets his bed, get up and show him to shower and clean himself and then to load his sheets and wet pyjamas into the washing machine
He needs to learn to wake up when he gets the urge to go.
