sometimes... this happens at my restruant... if the tea is home made... that means that the spout where the tea comes out hasnt been flushed out in a while... and its just build up of tea...

its pretty gross... but an easy fix all they have to do is run hot water and a teenie tiny bit of bleach through the spout.. to clean it.

i would have complained. to the resturant

I have worked in many restaurants and that is a common problem. Its some type of mold or mildew that builds up in the tea machine. (I hope that you complained!) The machines are filled with tea everyday and should be soaked with soda water each night to keep this from happening. I've never heard of anyone getting sick from it, but as a rule...I don't drink fresh brewed iced tea at restaurants.

If it was a fountain drink, often the tubes that the syrup comes through gets clogged up with slime. I know because I used to work in a restaurant and I had to clean the Iced Tea/Fruitopia pipe. Nasty eh? (It can't really harm you.. it's just solidified iced tea, but I can attest to the fact that it doesn't taste good. My friend dared me to eat it for $10 and I did...)

As a server at a chain restaurant I know that straw wrappers get mixed in the dishwasher and turn into slime due to soapy water. No reason to sue but it's gross as all ****.

freshly brewed iced tea can only sit for 6 hours...any longer than this and it starts to form clumps, and the scent of the tea changes (not for the better)

The waiter game you some of his special sauce in the backroom while getting your tea ready.

If you had never been there before and it was your 1st serving of tea, I would assume it was harmless.
If you had been a jerk to someone there before or you had stiffed a server there in the past....
Well ya just never know.

sorry, it is not just ice tea that has built up on the spout. There is also mold on there.
