The name probably originated in Hamburg, Germany. Hamburgers which are essentially ground meat, can also be made of turkey or chicken. I've also eaten veggie burgers in some restaurants.

Yes, it was created in Hamburg, Germany. And in the United Kingdom and Saudi Arabia, they call it the beefburger.

lol okay.....from what ive heard, yes it came from the german town called hamburg, the way it came about was, a german butcher was cutting up meat and decided to grind it in the meat grinder, instead of making sausage, he ground the beef up...he then threw it on the hot plate from what i undestand is, he then slapped it between a type of hardroll and ate it for lunch and i guess it caught on....
