im having trouble getting my mind to believe in him.

Please read my words carefully:
If you see footmark in the sand, you'll say that someone passed from here...
If you see a piece of dog sh*t on the ground, you'll say that a dog passed from here...
So what about the enormous universe, the sky, stars, planets, earth and all the beauty in it, doesn't it lead to that someone made it?!!!
Some people say that everything is created by itself after the big-bang... I won't ask you about what caused the big-bang, but I'll ask you a simple question:
If you take all the letters of the alphabet, multiples of them, and you threw them randomly on the floor. Do you expect (by a chance of one in infinity) to get a poem like shakespear's??!!
Can't you see how organized our universe is, the planets, the eco-system on earth, look even in your own body... Can you control your heart-beat? Can you control your breath while you're sleeping? Who stopped your eye-lashes from growing after reaching a certain length? Who told the baby turtles to move towards the sea and not to the earth after they come out of their eggs? Who taught the bird how to make nests?
My friend, think with your heart and brain. If you're still lost, think about the following:
Do you know how to play safe?
Your point:
If there's no God and you do all what you want in life, then nothing will happen to you after life. But if there was God and you were mistaken, then you'll blame yourself FOREVER...
Believer's point:
If there's God and I followed His commands in life, then I'll be in Heaven after life FOREVER. But if there was no God and we're mistaken, then nothing bad will happen to us after life...
Now you know how to play-safe, in case you're not convinced?

It's all about faith.
But there is also evidence:
1. Creation-People would think you were absurd if you tld them that a building built itself on it's own, there has to be a builder. You would be considered insane if you put a bunch of pieces of a watch in a box together, and blow it up, and then say that given enough time the watch will be put together. That's what evolutionists tell us. The world was floating around, then bang, a beautiful solar system, wtih the sun and the moon perfectly balanced, and all of a sudden, life springs out of non-life, and out of the huge amount of galaxies and planets in the universe, man just happens to land on the best one? Not only that, but many species too? The world, this galaxy, and this universe is a beautiful design, therfore (logically) there has to be a designer. Intellectual Design. So then why choose the "Christians" God as the designer?
2. The Bible-Was written over a period of 1600 years, with over 40 authors who were not contemporaries of each other, and they all write a huge book without contradiction or error on their own? So many prophecies that were fulfilled down to the jot and tiddle, and these prophets just guessed and were right 100% of the time? The only answer would be a god who wanted to be revealed through the Bible, a god who changes not, a soveriegn god who knows the future This is the God who is reveals Himself in the Bible. He has revealed that he is loving, Just, Righteous, full of mercy and grace, Pure, Holy, Omnicient, Omnipresent, Omnipotent, and so much more.
3. Faith-yes it does take faith. "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen."
I believe in the God of the Bible, and I know that He is real, an dthat His Word is absolute truth.

You can't "make yourself" believe in God.
However, you can help yourself along the way. You sound like me, actually, a few years ago. Some good places to start would be to read books by Lee Strobel and Josh McDowell. I own several of their books.
There is also scientific evidence:
1. The complexity of our DNA codes. There is just no way for them to be created, on their own, without some kind of catalyst.
2. Once scientists broke down the cells of all life on Earth, they found that each was comprised of quarks, which is sound.
God spoke, and it came into being.
3. Frederick Hoyle, one of the top scientists and astronomers of the last century, conducted a study into the probability of one single-cell life form being produced by random chance. His research led him the conclusion that there is a chance of one in 10 to the 40,000th power. In science, anything over 1 in 1050 is considered impossible.

There is no way to make yourself believe.
You need to sit down and actually look into your heart and make the decision of weather you want to follow a mighty creator, loving father, willing sacrifice, blessed redeemer, or if you want to try your luck and not believe.
It takes a lot of strength and courage to follow Christ. The road is an ever uphill climb with many obstacles in the way. But the finish line is such a lovely reward.

Look outside at the moon tonight. He is within you. If you are alone, just put your hands together and talk to Him. Ask Him for the honor of believing in Him, so you can learn to love. Thank Him sincerely for what ever blessings you have. God is love, and I love you. God bless you with the strength you need to believe.

Pray that He will come into your heart and baptize you by the power of the Holy Spirit. For faith is not ultimately an intellectual pursuit, but as it is written, "The kingdom of God is not a matter of talk but of power." If you just open your heart and mind to receive Him, then in His timing He will show you the true evidence of His love...and He Himself will strengthen your faith just like He did with the apostle Peter!
I will also pray for you. I cannot underestimate the power of prayer!

Just look out the window and at life. God created us and loves us even though at times it seems like he has abandoned us, but he hasn't. Just look into your own soul AND ASK GOD AND Jesus TO COME INTO YOUR LIFE AND HELP YOU UNDERSTAND. If possible talk to someone who knows God and Jesus and they will help you understand. Don't wait until it's to late. Remember it's not this life that will be perfect, but the next one. It's up to you to make the best of this one. Pray and talk to God a lot and he will help you understand.

You can't make yourself believe in God. You need to have faith that he is real and a big part of your life. When that happens you will believe without trying.

The only way to come to God is to have His Holy Spirit draw you to Him. If you ain't feelin' it,maybe God's not tapping you on the shoulder right now.Maybe He did and you blew Him off and maybe He'll come back and then again...maybe not?
