Could you add some additional details, so we might know what the exact problem is? Are you getting stop errors (aka Blue Screen of Death)? Is your computer just freezing up so that you have to do a hard re-boot (i.e. press on the power button to force the computer to shut down)? What exactly is it doing?

What do you mean by shutdown? If it's the classic "Windows is shutting down", "(Linux Distro Goes Here) is shutting down", followed by some "[OK] Stopping CUPS" and similar stuff, you might be accidentally hitting your computer's power button.
