I consider myself to be fairly intelligent, but I couldn't understand
anything in his books. The words were English, but looked like
Russian or German they were so long!

I'm not exactly sure it's in his exact words, and if they are he mostly uses big words because that's what he knows and feels comfortable with. Not to degrate anyones intelligence.

You should listen to audiotapes of Allan watts, he talks in a clear way on all that stuff.
BTW "he who knows knows there's no ego" is a important philosophy to understand in Buddhism but is quite difficult,it eventually comes down to that the whole overcoming the ego thing is a used method to make an more important point.

He is in a realm of his own and he is the only person in this world I look up too. You have to be intelligent in the heart and mind to understand what he is saying, his intelligence is beyond what most humans perceive as intelligent. Learn to think from the inside not based on the world around you but from your soul and you'll understand.

The ego has nothing to do with big words, and those words were probably hindi or tibetan words that have no translation. The ego deals with attachment to worldly things...

Buddhism "is" about overcoming EGO, not about overcoming an "education".
