Maybe humpty dumpty wanted to try out for the show Believe it or Not. Or the Most Extreme. But poor egg didn't make it. Or maybe poor Humpty Dumpty wanted to prove something to all the other eggs and it just didn't happen for him. But what I would like to know is..................Why did all the kings horses and all the Kings men try to put Humpty back together again? Don't you think that a Kings army should be smarter then that?

It has been a long time since I read about that little poem. It was one of many similar ones which were created at the time of a political scandal of some type. At that time, everyone knew what it meant; we no longer know, so it's just a goofy poem for kids.
Imagine if we made a poem about Slick Willie and Monica. Will anyone 100 years from now understand it? Probably not.
Another example. Ring around the Rosie had to do with the plague in the time of plagues when large numbers of people died every day.

You know, the "egg" part isn't in the original rhyme, that came in later with illustrations.
I remembered reading a story about Humpty Dumpty being pushed off the wall, and so I just looked for and found a reference in Wikipedia:
-----------------------------
Neil Gaiman published in KNAVE, in 1984 a short story called 'The Case of the Four and Twenty Blackbirds', which casts Humpty as a murder victim. The tone is that of hard boiled detective fiction and casts a number of nursery rhyme charaters in various roles such as Jill from Jack and Jill as the femme fatale or Cock Robin as the underworld informant.

perhaps Humpty's brains were scrambled from too many drugs. He was incoherant and had no idea there was even a wall there. No matter, he knew good and well, all the kings horses and all the kings men, would put Humpty together again.

Humpty Dumpty knew EGGactly what he was doing!
He was no different than trapeze artists who work without a net. Some creatures just like to live dangerously and "tempt" Fate.

it is a little known fact that most giant eggs with semi human qualities have substance dependency problems.Humptys favourite poison of choice was lsd.The lsd led to effects such as loss of equilibrium(falling off the wall) and surreal hullucinations(there were no kings hoses or men, just shocked onlookers)..a sad story of a nursery rhyme genius bought down by substance abuse.

Bettelheim's "The Meaning of Enchantment" makes a strong argument that fairy tales and nursery rhymes (and by this I mean the original Grimm's fairy tales, not the Disney-fied versions) are object lessons to children both about basic safety as well as eventual, more complex emotions of love, sex, hate, violence, and fitting into whatever societal structure you were born into.

Aw.., you know how those thrill seekers are. The more stupid and dangerous a stunt is, they go for it. One day its hang gliding, the next its parachuting via a skateboard and the day after that its sitting on brick walls. The putz.

same reason people do crazy stunts.. they wanna test the limits. they wanna see how much they can laugh in god's face before god can make them pay. humpty was testin his limit on that wall. and he lost. humpty cracked into little pieces of shell and gooey yellow center spilled out.

do you ever take chances even though you think you know what the out come might be. Well its the same thing. Why do people get on planes that might crash or in a boat that might sink. They never think it will happen to them. Well that s what he thought . He was wrong but he was intitled to his opinion
