You could put it in a plastic container with a lid or a plastic sandwich bag. You could also freeze chopped onion. It's a great time saver when making sauces, etc. Just chop as much as you want and freeze in an ice cube tray. When frozen, pop out and put in a freezer bag and leave in the freezer. Just take out a cube or 2 as needed.

I have a Tupperware plastic container especially for storing cut onions and I find that it works well.
Before I had that I wrapped it in paper towel then put it in a plastic bag. The paper towel absorbs moisture and holds off the rotting process a few extra days.

I wrap it in Saran wrap and store in the frig for a week or so. If I have a large amount of onions that I don't want to go bad, I chop them up and put them in zipper top bags and freeze them for later.

a ziploc bag in the crisper drawer in the fridge would be your best option. i wouldn't recommend wrapping it in plastic wrap, it will make your fridge smell like onion.
