LOL. Most theatres instruct their ticket checkers to politely tell you not to bring in food. If they are busy they might overlook the food you are bringing in under your shirt. Once you are inside, I doubt they will do through the other seats to tell you to please leave the theatre. There is only so much policing for outside food that these people can do.
Therefore it is better to bring non bulky food and sit in the middle of the theater. Or eat after the movie.

OK so i'm going to let you know right now that sneaking any kind of food into a theatre is definitly ok, but i'm not sure what you mean by and attendant saying carry-in allowed, because it is never allowed in the theatres. anyway as for chocolates mealting try putting them in your pocket and i don't think it will melt, but if you are nervous about that you can put a baggy of ice in your pocket and the chocolate on top in your pocket so then the pocket is a little cooler. LOL anyway it's easier for me to sneak stuff in because i have a purse you could do that if you wanted if you don't mind getting weird looks. My friend once put a large can of green tea i don't know if you know what i'm talking about the large can of Arizona Green Tea but anyway she put it in her pant leg and tied it around her ankle and put the pant over it. It worked out very successfully if you were wondering. lol anyway you go ahead and sneak food in because you know what everyone does it. : ) : ) : )

What I do is bring a jacket, stick whatever in there, and carry it draped over my arm. I tend to go ahead and get a soda, but theatre food is just crappy and ridiculously expensive to boot. It's enough that I paid for a $12 matinee and $4 soda. Since I've never seen a theatre that allowed carry-in food, I just keep it in the jacket until after the previews.

Hide it in your underwear
Then take it out and share it around!
I find the best thing to do is to bring a backpack. You can stash food and drinks in the bottom, covered with a pullover or something and if they are so anal as to inspect your bag, you can just leave it all with them and pick it up later.
