We used to have a great relationship but now things are weird and I'm not very comfortable around them. We still haven't spoken and I just want to know how to fix this.

I agree you need to stay out and let things iron themselves out on their own. Sometimes when we try to help with the best of intentions it ends up turning against you and you become the target in the end. I'm sure your sisterinlaw is old enough to defend herself and you really have no obligation to have to put things right just because of who your motherinlaw is. She needs to be accountable for her own actions. Good luck to you

It's called communication. You didn't give any details as to why this situation happened. But maybe -- you being the better person- should call up your mother in law and ask her to come over for coffee or go out for coffee -or whatever - and just politely but firmly explain to her how you feel about all of this and see if there is a way of you two agreeing to disagree on this subject. 2 people don't stop being friends just because they don't see eye to eye on a subject.

What caused the rift in the family? You didn't mention that. I would suggest talking with your MIL and your SIL (separately) to get both sides of the story.

You need to not get involved. Let the two work it out. Otherwise you're putting yourself in the middle. You really don't need to be fighting with you husband's Mom or your sister in law.

You can't fix it UNLESS you were the cause. If you weren't the cause of the fall-out, just stay out of it. You could make things worse instead of better. Good Luck
