I'm so sorry that your parents don't encourage you. That's so sad. If you like it...do it. Your parents should be happy that your playing for the church and not on a street corner dealing dope. I'm proud of you and I'm sure other people here are too. Don't give up.

Well maybe they just feel you could be using your time and talents in a more productive way. These traveling teams just take up so much time. To me, it doesn't really sound like your parents' concern is so much about how good you are as much as it is "you're not really into it."

The bottom line is, do you really want to pursue basketball or are you just wanting to be on the team because you have other friends doing it, therefore you think you have to be part of the basketball crowd even though you don't really care about it as much as your other sports.

Do you want to be "a jack-of-all-trades and master of none," or do you have some specific gifts like music that you should be throwing yourself into more? Sports are good, but they're just so over-rated in our society these days. What do you think?

First and foremost...I'm appalled that your parents push you that way. They should be proud that you are on the church team rather than out riding around with your friends and they aren't sure where you are.

It sounds like you really enjoy doing this but you don't enjoy being judged by your parents. you must be respectful of your parents at all times...but ...you should tell your parents ..with respect...and maybe one at a time rather than both of them at once that this is something you enjoy and want to do...that you really don't care if you aren't the best on the team but being a part of the team is what matters.

And you play other sports as well...hey we can't all be great at everything...but we can enjoy everything we do. Talk to them...as I said...one at a time not both...they can't gang up on you that way...sometimes parents do that cause neither wants to admit to the other that the child is right...but one on one...they will hear you individually and listen.

Hope this helps

First of all your parents should be encouraging you. I say that if you like the game and the team you should give it all you've got. The great thing about being part of a team is you don't have to be the best...just a team player.

Sports are suppose to be fun... it is not about winning or being the MVP it is about learning to deal and socialize with other kids. you learn to be go0d sport and how to interact with others.

Tell your parents that the goal of playing on the team is to be a team player and a little support is all you need to have a positive attitude in everything that you do while growing up.

You need to talk to your parent s and tell them that you are doing the best that you can do, and if they feel that you are not giving it your all, then maybe they can offer you some suggestions on how to improve on what they say that you are not doing the best at. After you all talk, tell them that you are thinking about stopping palying on the team. Tell them that God may want you to do other things with your life and when you find out what it is you'll definitely let them in on it. Their your parents and you have to listen to them, but if they love you, they should be willing to listen to you and be open and honest between all of your conversations with them and they with you.
Hope it works out and you do what is best for you.
God Bless You and your family.

Do you have fun doing it? If so then keep on. Maybe your parents might feel like you are not into it and they say those things because they don't want you to feel obligated to stay there because of them. Talk to them and tell them that you do like it and you are doing the best you can. It would feel better if they encourage you...

I would stay with the team if you enjoy it.
I'm glad you are mature enough to know that you don't have to be the best player on the team to make a contribution - unfortunately, it sounds like you are more mature than your parents on this issue.

I say...ask yourself if you want to be on the team. Ask your coach if you want another opinion. But I say, if you want to be there, then stay. You must have something to offer the team if you are on it.

Let them know that you do like it, whether you are the best player or not. Explain to them that their comments can be hurtful, and you'd like a little support!
