No, it's not too many, if you're willing to take proper care of them, keep them as indoor only cats and have them spayed or n
neutered.
And, I don't think having 3 cats puts you anywhere near the definition of a crazy cat lady. I think you have to have at least 40 or 50 and have long ago lost touch with reality. It's official term is "hording".
I currently have 5 indoor only cats. No litter box smell, either.
The cats are spoiled and happy, except for their spats and the occassional hissing. Just like all friends - they have their disagreements. But, they're healthy, safe, and well loved.

Maybe. It depends on you and how you take care of them.

Here is a little test you can try.

Bring home a friend and don't tell them what you are about to do.
Open the door and when they come in ask what is the first thing they can smell.
If they say cat pee or litter box stuff then 3 is to many.......

No 3 is not bad at all, I have 6. It really depends on the person. I have to clean litter boxes everyday and the cost to fix them really costed me alot but it is worth it to me. 6 cats and no smell either, it isn't hard to have it that way in my opinion.
Word of advice though, buy a litter box for each cat though to make sure the house stays clean, some cats don't like to share things like litter boxes.

i always have 3 cats.not too much for me.im used to it.i always set out to just have 2-so they can be friends and amuse each other when im at work or whatever.but then,i always find a stray kitten.or an elderly cat dies, and i think i'll just stick to the 2 im left with-and-bingo!i stop at a rest stop or something, and theres another stray kitten!so ive had 3 cats all my life, one way or another.just happens.must be my "karma'.(or my catma).ps-contrary to what "libragirl'wrote,3 cats does NOT make u a "catwoman".this libragirl(im oct. 10)runs her own business, travels regularly and has a husband, thank u !!!!!i guess u could call my husband a "dogman",he has 4 !!!!!!!

Not as long as you can care for 3 cats....

It's not too many if you have the time to give them all a good amount of attention and they have plenty of space to roam in your home. Monetarily you need to think of the extra litter pan upkeep, extra food, vet visits, etc.

We currently have 5 cats. They are our kids... :)

It might depend on where you live. I live in California, and the legal limit is three cats or dogs per household, even if you own your own home, I believe.

You might ask a vet or an animal shelter.

hi christina,
this will depend on entirly how much living space u have, wether u want them inside or out, ur money amount on looking after them including money put away for a rainy day(or vet), i have also found that even numbers of cats are better as one wont get left out then, how much time u have to spend with them as opposed to if ur single or married with kids.

i have 3 cats, a dog, an iguana, mice, birds, and a rabbit and that's not bad...if you can handle 3 then do 3. However many you can take in and take complete care for...Like paying for veterinary bills and food...
