If your friend didn't like him much and you did. Ask her if he is up for grabs! If she did really like him and you went for it she might be upset when yougo on double dates????

I've had the same best friend for 30 years now. There had to be a few we accidently borrowed (without asking) through the years.
Now we really regret it.
