What exactly is wrong with 'guidance on how to live'?

Since when should this be seen in a negative light like it being a 'security blanket'?

Perhaps a person's religion or spirituality is to help keep peace of mind moreso than security.

Religion may be but Christianity is not. Christianity is a relationship with Jesus. A personal relationship. We abandon ourselves to GOD. Christianity is suicide. I'm a dead man. But I am alive for the first time so in that sense, It is the ONLY way to live.

May GOD richly bless ya.

It is that to a great degree....but once you realize that the best person to guide you is YOU, that no-one else can really see your path nearly as well, varieties of spiritual activity remain, indeed they blossom! They can become richly rewarding and powerful once you no longer cop-out of being responsible for your own choices.

not for all. there may be some who are this way as each individual person seeks his religious path for his own reasons and there may be as many different reasons as there are people.

i am sure it is for some people .. not for all
but i find nothing wrong with that though as many people do struggle through life and to have help in any form is good
i have respect for all religions for this reason

"Just" as security blanket - no, too simplified.

"Also" a security blanket - okay, I could see that.
