I just wanted to ask how numb do you become after having antidepressants like zoloft? like will my personality change or will I seem to people like I don't give a **** ? especially to my girl friend?
About roughly a year ago a doctor told me that I should start on zoloft but I didn't... I freaked out because I will have to take it for like 4 - 5 months. But now I am having problems, my girl friend of 4 years says she has had a crappy last year because i fight too much on small things and i know i am obsessive because all I think all day long is why is she not calling me.. when will she call me.. what if she doesn't call and stuff like that. Also I have anxiety problems.
i just wanted to ask some one about this. I cant discuss this with my gf because then she would say I am like her father and she doesn't want to stay with someone like that.. although I am not.
and will i be happy more often?
I would prefer answers from people who have had antidepressants.

here is my experience with zoloft. i take 50 mg a day for obsessive compulsive issues, not really depression. i do like zoloft because it clears my mind of repetitive negative thoughts. honestly, they just are not there anymore when before i would perseverate on cr@p and get myself all stressed out over nothing... maybe you know the feeling. anyway, i dont really feel that i am all that numb or flat as they call it-if I am nobody has said so and to me it is worth it anyway because i feel alot better with it. i do feel happier more often because it was my own negative thoughts that were tearing me down previously. OK, now the bad part of zoloft-it is not as bad as the other ssri's- but it may lower your sex drive or make it difficult to achieve orgasm. i have heard you can add wellbutrin to the mix if this happens. good luck. it is definitely worth a try- you should begin to notice a difference in just a couple weeks so by 1 month you probably have a good idea how you feel with it

People's reactions to the meds vary a lot. They might have no effect at all. It's unlikley to cause a major personality change. You should give it a try. Ask your girfriend or your friends to let you know what changes they see in you, if any and keep a diary so you can note changes in yourself. If you're lucky, then the drugs will take away the symptoms of depression - you won't get nearly as angry / sad / worried about little things. Give it a try; it's unlikely to harm you. You will probably start with a small dose and then increase it slowly if there are no side effects. You might even have to try some other meds if the Zoloft doesn't work for you. It's a matter of trial and error because people are very different. But it's definitely worth trying.

Zoloft has a half-life of about one day. That means that for every day that passes without taking the medication the level in the blood falls by 50%. After one day the level is reduced to 50% of the original level, after two days to 25%, after three days to 12.5%, and so on.

When one stops Zoloft too rapidly a withdrawal syndrome may develop. Among the symptoms that may be experienced are nausea, tremors, lightheadedness, muscle pains, weakness, insomnia, and anxiety. The withdrawal symptoms usually last 1-2 weeks but in some instances they may gradually decrease over a period as long as a month. It is generally recommended that one taper off this medication gradually under a doctor's supervision. Check with your own personal physician for specific instructions.

I was full of anxiety and depressed. I tried herbal remedies like St. John's Wort and Valerian, but they had no effect except to make me feel tired. I went to my doctor and she first put me on effexor, and that was a terrible experience. It made me feel worse. After just 2 pills I called her and told her I needed to quit taking it. She then put me on Zoloft. I had no side effects with this one. I slowly but surely started to have a better outlook on life and was able to deal with things much better. I've been on it almost a year now. I'm happier now than I've ever been in my life. Good luck.

Drugs like that deaden many emotions, including motivation, desire, and maturity. Also, they are highly addictive and trying to get off get literally drive you insane.
I recommend herbs like Saint John's Wort (a natural Prozac) and other types of therapy for anxiety. If you want to know what you might expect with Zoloft, look at the Paxil site (similar drug)
