Malinois are nice dogs, they are very active and need to be doing something constantly. Personally, I was called about 2 that a trainer wanted me to place and I denied. I love the breed and they are excellent working dogs. Go here to Heather's site. She is in Indianapolis, a great trainer, and breeds them. She has titled her dogs in French Ring and has also had them in Obedience and Utility. http://www.cherokeek9.com/

Belgian Malinois is very good pet, but they need work. they are great at protection work, agility, competition obedience, tracking, any protection sports( Schutzhund, French ring, Mondio ring) . They have amazing drive and energy. If you don't do anything with them, they become restless and destructive.
I have one. Look at http://www.friendster.com/malidobe
Click on any pictures. They can run faster then 35MPH, some what sharp, very friendly in most of case. They know when to get serious. As far as you are willing to work with him, you will love Belgian malinois. I cannot recomend any breeder because I don't know what you want to do with him. If you know what you want, I might give you few names.

Malinois are working dogs .They are incredibly energetic and require lots of exercise and socialization. If that is your first dog ...no don't get that breed. They often used (over here in germany )as police dogs to chase & protect.
They don't do well if they to many hours alone or left outside the house.
They also have a strong attachment toward the people in their lifes

I am certainly no expert on Belgians, but have had a few in my classes as well as known a couple people that have had them.

They are very trainable but they can be a handful. I have seen a couple very aggressive ones, and these were in the hands of long time knowledgable dog people. I think they are beautiful dogs, but be prepared to have a firm hand with one.

Why not go to a dog show and talk to a few breeders?

Personally, I've had dogs from breeders and from the pound. There are so many unwanted animals (that are great). I was recently on the MSPCA (Massachusetts) website and there are thousands of dogs (young and old) that people give away for various reasons. I got my three dogs from the pound and they're great. The MSPCA website has dogs from all over the country. Just type in the breed you're looking for.
