Yes. Many older dogs get what is called sebaceous cysts. I have three older dogs and two have these cysts. They are harmless. However, none have ever opened up. Try to find out where the bleeding is coming from. If it is not still bleeding, keep an eye on him to see if it starts up again. If your dog is 14 and has not seen a vet in the last six months, it is time for a recheck.

Best wishes to you.

I had 2 black labs, the mother made it to 15 1/2 and her daughter is now 17 and 3 months, both had and have these lumpy and or fatty deposits, Yeah, I would have your dog looked at and the blood done, but, after a certain age the vet will not put a dog under anesthesia for an biopsy it is too risky for the dog. And the next time you take her to the vet, it might not be something that you want to hear.

Some growths on older dogs are normal, while others are cancerous. I had a dog that had tumors that would bleed and it was cancer. She had surgery, but they came back. Another one of my dogs had a big lump that turned out to be a harmless cyst. I would get him to the vet right away. Good luck.
