Strange statement. It smacks of disfunctionality and confusion.
I know I'm alive because I can still feel. Pain is not the only thing that confirms life! There is also ecstacy, joy, contentment, happiness, indignation, desire, pleasure, love, and peace.
The statement given to you sounds like it comes from an unhappy, suffering person, or from someone who has experienced pain for so long, apart from joy, that they don't know how to handle the pleasantness of life. It sounds a little sado-masochistic!
BTW, I don't recall a place in the Bible saying there is no pain in Heaven. Even God feels pain (usually associated with heartbreak). The more intense the love, the more open the lover is to heartbreak from the beloved.

I totally disagree with that statement, this is how I would revise it, if I may:
You wouldn't appreciate happiness if you were happy all the time, experiencing pain is a part of life, and is the one of the only times you can truly appreciate your health... so if you're in heaven and not experiencing pain you must be dead, right?
RIGHT

I find this statement rather nonsensical.
While pain is a reality of life, it isn't the only thing that tells me I am truly alive. Pain is there to tell us when something is wrong.
To say that if I am in Heaven, and not in pain I must be dead shows a great lack of understanding of what knowing God is all about.
I am really alive when I am in The Spirit, when The Spirit is moving through me. When I am in His Awesome Presents, Worshiping Him, and I feel His love, like worm Honey, pouring down on me, I feel more alive than any other Time in my life.
You can not stay depressed when you are Praising our Awesome God !
You will forget your pain while you Praise our Awesome God !
You cannot be suicidal when you are Worshiping our Awesome God !
He inhabits your Praises,(Ps.22:3). He literally comes down and gets involved in your Praise. In Praise/Worship, the Storm clouds part, the sun comes out, and I find my place. You see, we were made to Praise, and Worship Him.

I would say, "It is the limits of your imagination that make you unable to conceive of heaven. Also, it is the limits of your comprehension that make you believe that experiencing pain is the only time you know you're truly alive. It seems the problem lies in the fact that you believe what your mind tells you, which is too bad, because your mind paints a tiny view of eternity and a skewed view of life on earth. Seek something higher than and outside of yourself if you ever want to be liberated from the stuffy quarters of your own cramped thoughts."

If that analogy is correct then the opposite must be true. It is fun and entertaining to go through hard times and be miserable? They think pain is the only thing that defines their life? WOW must be fun to be their friend! : P
I dont know about you but time FLIES when Im having fun. There is no such thing as a fun day that lasted "too long" but how many times have you wished your day over that was going horrible?
While it is true adversity grows character, it does NOT grow happiness. And people are never going to get true happiness unless they believe and follow the Lord!
I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob' ? He is not the God of the dead but of the living. -Matthew 22:32

I would highly doubt there is going to be any pain in heaven, maybe being happy doesn't have to be boring. But honestly can you tell me a time in your life youv'e really experienced being happy all of the time to tell if it is boring. Because I'm going to bet you've probably not been able to be happy. And if you could be happy all of the time on earth you really wouldn't need a heaven would you? Cause this place wouldn't be that bad then.

i was baptized roman catholic, went to a catholic school for 9 years, have read most of the bible several times (years ago), but no longer consider myself "catholic" - however - my answer is more of a questioning of the statement itself - happiness is not the opposite of pain (ask any masocist), it is the opposite of sadness, which, is meerly just the other side of the spectrum that both happiness and sadness lie on. so the only truth to be found there is the awareness of one as a corrolary to the other. life is an affirmation, in every sense, if you want to feel truly alive, then feel the abundance that life has to offer - feeling that is feeling heaven

Interesting question....
To answer your question, I think it is important to draw a distinction between the purposes of earth and the purpose of heaven. As earth is a place for growth, often coming by way of challenges and suffering, we ought to embrace the opportunity to "share with Christ in His suffering that we may share with Him in His glory" as the Scriptures tell us. Yet just as one goes to the gym and "suffers" this suffering is so that he or she may enjoy the fruit of that suffering at a later date. And so when we arrive in heaven, and God wipes away every tear as He has foretold, we will surely be grateful that both the suffering is over and that we went through great tribulation and came out with great and eternal possessions to enjoy in heaven...where there is no suffering!
Also, keep in mind that it is written, “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven” (Ecc 3:1)
Is that a decent answer?

My answer is the person who made that quote does not know Jesus, and the life, more abundant that was promised. I know I am alive during joy also!!!!!!!!
there is pain in heaven-
in revelation just before the end, God wiped away all the tears - so there had to be tears before.

No I don't think it would be boring to have no more sorrow, pain or suffering. And if someone says experiencing pain is the only way you know you're alive.....this person needs some help!
