Thru tradition and ignorance of scripture on the part of Medieval painters, it is the general belief that only 2 were crucied with Christ.
But scripture does not say so, it states that there were....?

The Bible says there were two men also crucified with Christ.

Actually, it does say two. Check out Matthew 27:38, Mark 15:27, Luke 23:32-33, and John 19:18.
Now, I'm eager to see part two of this!

Duh... So the scriptures mention only two, and popular iconography only represent these two. So we don't know if that day and in that place they crucified one or three persons, or more, or none at all...

and how is it important since historic fact is actually lost beyond any hope of recovery?
