Impressionism is an immature style whose philosophy is refuted by Salvador Dali and me. Pointillism of Georges Seurat and Maurice Signac is the ultimate conclusion of it, but their painings still seem childish. Post-Impressionists were aware that Impressionism is naive and in error, so they tried to transform it into museum quality work. Vincent Van Gogh, Paul Cezanne and Paul Gauguin were the most notable of them. Their work is above Impressionism but far below the Baroque and Renaissance masters. I can do better in my paintings than any Impressionist, so you aren't alone in not appreciating Impressionism. You'd be immature if you said you did.

Put yourself in the mindset of the late 1800s or the turn into the 20th Century. Here was a new approach to paintings...and an investigation into the nature and transience of light, coincident with scientific revelations about photosensitive materials. Impressionism was a new way to understand and view landscapes, still lifes and figures, not just a realistic rendering of them. Photography could now do what painters used to do, so why bother? Why not explore the edges which Impressionists, and Cubists, and Abstract Expressionists did. Can you not appreciate their investigations, inquisitiveness and inventiveness?

Well, to my way of thinking, you either like Impressionism or you don't. I dont like Modern Art, or Cubism, or Abstract. But I do love Impressionist painting, it is kind of like a dream sequence, where you look beyond just paint and canvas to the soul of it. A painting tells a story, or it should, or a thought or vision. Just my opininion, for what it is worth.

drugs.
no, not really, I'm j/k.
It sounds as though you don't like impressionism. You don't have to like something to appreciate it, but it helps.
Perhaps you could find an impressionist painting that you do like and go from there.
Or find someone, like a teacher, who is appreciative of the art and discuss it with them, see why they appreciate it.

Basically when one can see the beauty around him through fogged up glasses. Realistic paintings are much like photographs, some even look like photos, but the impressionist are not realistic artists. There are many ways to view the things around you. You should look into pointillism (or however you spell it).

Creativity is very hard for most of us to really get into if we don't experience the thrill of remaking or making worlds of whimsy.
Ya got to make, before you can appreciate
Ya see missiles shooting across the sky that fall and explode into hands that tickle you .
Ya know the boom ha ha's
