Traditionally the bride purchases the groom's ring and the groom purchases the bride's ring. However, many couples go together and get wedding rings in a set (saves some money and makes them match).

Usually the rings are provided together. Once the engagement ring is out of the way the bands (if the engagement didn't come as a set) are usually picked out together. But you can do it however you like. Ask him what he thinks. You normally don't need the mens band until the wedding day cuz he doesn't wear it until the ceremon.

My husband lost his ring at work! But yeah, I bought it, and he has a cheap stainless steel one now until I can buy him the one I want to buy him.

I dunno; if they're getting married, why would it matter who buys what. My fiancé paid for both rings when we picked them out in the store together, it just wasn't that important; our accounts are getting combined after marriage, so it was a non-issue.
