Then do it! I volunteer at the shelter and you get so much out of it. They just want someone to talk to. I work with kids with a disability ages 9-15.

(1) Give money to charities that stress helping the disabled (The National Cerebral Palsy Foundation, The Association For Retarded Persons, March of Dimes, Easter Seals, etc.). BEFORE YOU DO HOWEVER, find out by calling the national branch what percentage of what they receive goes specifically toward helping people.
(2) Volunteer to help mail out contribution materials in your area.
(3) In the Summer, during the holiday season, or on weekends, keep your eyes open for anyone needing help that will usually make the area aware through the media (ie: newspapers in your area, tv., radio).

Check your local section of your daily newspaper or Look in the yellow pages for organizations that are in need of volunteers. Also hospitals and nursing homes always need them.
