Me and my friend tried house ales from various pubs, and notice that they all are disgusting. I had one that tasted like a pint of tea and was just as warm, and one called Ghost Ale.

You need to savour the taste for them. Personally, they are horrible! As you get older, it tastes better!
Its like the more you drink, the more beautiful that woman becomes! ;-)

If they tasted bad your drinking in the wrong places. The landlord has to look after the beer, if it tasted bad it is off, try what other people are drinking, ask which is most popular as if it is not popular it goes bad. If your in the uk get a CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale) guild to good pubs.

A good ale should be clear and taste fantastic and part of the fun is finding it and when you do it will be worth it, even the US now has Micro breweries

Your drinking the wrong ales or at the wrong pubs I ran pubs for over 20 years and real ales were my speciality,i would defy you to have come into my pub and tell me the ale was disgusting. It has to be looked after ,pipes cleaned often, not left on sale for too long as it can go off just like any food,

It's because the "house ale" (actually, they are lagers, as real ale is not hopped) is the cheapo stuff served to those who can't or won't fork out the quid for better brands... and if it's cheap for the drinker, you can bet the publican took the cheapest thing he could get that could still be called beer.
