I contracted Bells Palsy after a (painful) visit to a dentist. The right side of my face was paralysed and when I blinked it looked like a wink. This was embarrassing on occassions. It happened about 40 years ago, lasted 2 months and has never recurred. Thank goodness

I had a mild case of Bell's Palsy 3 years ago, the doctor couldn't tell me what causes it at all. It was pretty uncomfortable at the time, mostly i felt self-consious when speaking or eating infront of people, and wearing a pad and tape over my eye to keep it closed at night wasn't much fun either! Was at university at the time, but not at a really stressful time so not sure it was down to that.
To be honest i haven't really thought that much about it since, a course of steroids saw it off pretty quickly, but i'm convinced that my mouth is still a little lopsided due to it. The doc did reassure me it was extremely unlikely to come back though, and maybe since it was quite a mild case of it, i'm not as worried as others may be about it returning.

No I am not nervous that I will get it again. Maybe I will accept it in a better way. That, what is left from the 1st time is not that bad. It can happen to anyone. And yes there is not a lot of people that are aware of this. My left eye usually hangs a bit after working long hours.

Yes I had it last year it not nice and makes you feel like stopping in doors, so no one see you. And it makes you feel people are looking at you but they are not all the time, it is our own fear of what we see others seeing, but most of the time when we are out having cup of tea or eating that's when it hard. As for me the funny side was I could shut my eye on one side and use to get shampoo in my eye and that hurt a lot. As to if it come back I do not know but chances are lighting will not hit us same place again.you will get better it takes time that's all, you are not alone it does happen to others too. hope it better soon ..........

I'd a stroke, the whole side of my face had dropped, I was
devistated !!!! I was lucky as within 2 weeks I was nearly
back to normal, but I still feel one of my cheeks higher than
the other !! but ,, I have had many model jobs, eyes and
skin, and do not worry it will happen again, odds on it

I had bells palsy, about 5yrs ago, often associated with many 'old wives tales' about sleeping draughts etc. Allegedly mine was brought on by stress!!! very unnerving as it came on in about 8hours, just lost the control of the left hand side of my face, couldn't even blink.....very weird. A course of steroids and everything was soon back to normal in about 4weeks. yes it could happen again, but i don't worry about it, get on with life, enjoy yourself.

My wife suffered from it, thankfully for only a couple of months. One of those things that the cause is unknown, the prognosis uncertain. She initially thought "I've must of had a Stroke" Her face looked lop sided and she drooled a lot. The Doctor have said the chance of it returning is negligible.

Is It Possible To Get Bell's Palsy More than Once?
Unfortunately, yes, it is possible to suffer from Bell's palsy on more than one occasion although the number of people in whom it recurs is very small; approx. 7% recurrence rate.

Yea had it at 19 nearly died of shock the morning i woke up with it but that was years ago and it never happened again thank god. But there is no point in worrying about something that might never happen you just got to chalk it up as one weird experience.
