It's okay, with a few rules. Firstly, never shine it in the cat's eyes. Always make sure it is pointed at something else. Secondly, if your cat appears to be so tuned in on getting it that it is getting injured, STOP and don't bring it out again.

The second rule may seem strange, but let me explain. We used to play with a laser pointer or flashlight with my dog, and he was so nuts about getting it that he would actually bite the carpet or whatever it was shining on until his gums began to bleed. He once even ran so quickly after the light that he overshot and ran into the wall. Needless to say, we don't play with lights with the dog anymore, and the same injuries could happen to kitties.

Hi Cal
Somehow i don't think so. If its dangerous for children the it must be for animals also. Even tho your just playing around with the laser pen and the cat is having a great time, it could go to there eyes and that's not good. Laser pens are banned here and kids are not allowed them,, Please don't take my answer the wrong way i am not downing you for playing with your can or the pen i am just saying to be careful,,,,, My 10yr old son got me to answer this one LOL

My cats love a Laser pen. Do not shine it in their eyes.
I can point my light toward the ceiling and make circles and all the cats will follow it with their eyes. This is one of my cats favorite toys, and the only reason I own one

Yeah, they even make specific cat lasers designed for cats that have little things that go on the end of the laser that will put off a mouse design. Just make sure you don't shine it in their eyes.

My 2 cats used to love chasing the light from my laser pen. they would spend hours with it. If you shine it on the ground, they used to put their paw over it as if they caught something. When they did that, switch the light off. They will then lift their paw up to look at what they caught underneath....I swear that if you ever want to see a proper confused look on your cats face...do the same thing.

Hours of endless fun.

hi my cat loves taking section in at the same time with his laser pen we offered him from the interior reach puppy keep. it isn't harsh and cats like it. and evidently do no longer shine in the eyes, as you suggested you do not do. Your cat obviously loves taking section in with the pen and is moaning as he needs to play. So no it isn't cruel in any respect. And the exercising the cat receives from that's amazingly good too. The play will also bond you at the same time extra and your cat will sense in direction of you.The cat does no longer understand that's a laser and in simple terms unearths chasing it exciting. Play is component to a cat's psychological well being and it helps him stay mentally and bodily lively and alert. take excitement in it. thanks

It's great fun and exercise for them. Always shine it away from the cat's eyes, on the wall and around the floor.

One of my cats was very frightened by the laser pointer so I don't use one.

Lasers can damage the vision of cats , leading to strange incurable behaviour. This behaviour will include using your OWN garden as a toilet, and NOT killing wildlife. It will however still attract fleas.

I do this all the time! my cats go crazy! i have two. as soon as i take the pen out they come running and they go crazyyy they jump all over the place and they try to crawl up the wall. its so funny i could seriously play with them like that all day. I don;t think its dangerous for them unless you shine it in their eyes, so avoid that
