In most of the industries, nowadays condition monitoring is a prime tool toascertain the condition of machinery and carry out the maintenance accordingly. Vibration analysis is a tool of condition monitoring. vibration analysis for the machine would be carried out when it is being installed. so u have a reference value to start with. From time to time u check the vibrations of gear box with vibrograph. If heavy vibrations are resulted then it means some flaw in the gears or bearings of the gear shafts.
if the gears have flaked or broken due to seizures then it will result in a vibration pattern, shown by vibrograph.
bearing damage would show severe but uniform vibrations
