Black Pepper...just use a little less of it.

Black and White Pepper are both obtained from the small dried berry of the vine Piper nigrum. For White Pepper, the berry is picked when fully ripe. The outer layer of shrunken skin is removed, leaving the dried, grayish-white kernel. It has a milder, more delicate flavor than Black Pepper.

White Pepper is used in light colored foods such as sauces and soups.

Simply use regular, black pepper. Usually when recipes call for white pepper, it's only because the creator wants the pepper flavor without seeing the black flecks. This is usually the case in white sauces, or certain types of cream sauces/dishes where they don't want the black flecks to show in the sauce/dish. The taste is the same, trust me.

White pepper is used in light colored dishes, as black pepper would look like fly specs.
Black pepper will do just fine as a substitute for white pepper.

Black pepper will do just fine. White pepper comes from white peppercorns. It's a tiny bit milder, and doesn't leave black flecks in your white sauce. I think they taste the same, quite frankly. You can cut the quantity by 1/3 if you are concerned about the strength of black vs white pepper in your recipie.

just use black pepper. White pepper is often used in paler colored dishes so you won't see black pepper flecks. But I've never minded black pepper flecks as I like the flavor better than white peppr.
