Do you have to? no. Should you? Yes! Military doctors always joke about the number of women coming in for their 6 week check up that are already pregnant again. After working outside the military setting, it still happens frequently. 6 weeks is the average for healing time. It's best to wait that long to be sure you've healed completely. However, no everyone does.
Does it hurt? It does all depend on the delivery and your healing. It can hurt. I will feel different. It might just be uncomfortable. Take it slow, have some fun with just being intimate without the actual intercourse. There is something to be said for snuggling and giggling (like a school girl without all the innocense).
Good Luck

Yes, wait. That area needs time to heal, and it will still be a bit uncomfortable, even after the six weeks. Not to mention that you will be extremely fertile for the next couple of months.

I have seven children. That means seven pregnancies, labors and deliveries. Here's the deal, as told to me by more than one doctor. As soon as the post-natal bleeding stops the cervix is closed and you have no more chance of getting an infection than you do any other time of having sex. Translated: as soon as you stop bleeding it is medically ok to have sex. That doesn't mean that it isn't going to hurt, hormones are still out of wack, and you will want to use lube to make it less painful. You can also get pregnant during this time, if you are breastfeeding the chances aren't as great (but you can get pregnant while breast feeding) Use a condom if you are worried about getting pregnant.

You better not! I have a friend that couldn't wait and had sex before her 6 week check up and got pregnant, just like everyone on here is saying. Yes, it you are very fertile, and you do need to give your body time to heal. It's not something you should mess around with because I'll tell you what happened to my friend, she lost her baby at 4 months because she had sex too early and her uterus was NOT ready to carry another full term pregnancy. She still named her baby and had a normal funeral. She gave birth vaginally and it was still born. All because her uterus was not ready. Don't play around. It's not worth it and it is not cool to do that to a poor baby. All babies are trying to do is make it. You are not giving it good odds when you are purposly screwing around knowing you aren't supposed to! WAIT! GEEEEEEZZZZZZZZ

yes you need to wait the whole six weeks and have clearance from your doctor to have sex again. infections can set in if you're not completely healed. the only way to tell is to have a pap smear.
i cant say that it hurts, it may be slightly uncomfortable and weird.

i went t my doc 2 weeks 4 weeks and 6 weeks after. if you did your kegals during pregnancy and after then everything should be back to normal. your doc will tell you when its time to go for it. and some times it does hurt it just depends on you and any healing you need to do. also if your breast feeding you may want to get some lube as it sucks all the fluid from a womans body and cause you to be dry down there.

After a c-section- definitly YES! It takes that long before you can really move around normally & put pressure on your abdomin. But the sex itself doesn't hurt then.
