If you're fourteen, you are probably still in for a growth spurt, but not necessarily. I stopped growing in the eighth grade, and that was kind of depressing, but a lot of people get later growth spurts. My dad knew a guy who got kicked out of the navy because when he joined at 18 he was a 5' something shrimp and he got a sudden freak growth spurt at 21 where he suddenly shot up over a foot in a very short period of time. That almost never happens, but it's possible. Ask your parents when they stopped growing. I have a suspicion it's probably genetic.

But, if you're wondering, the reason why 21 is the legal age for drinking alcohol is because statistically, most people aren't done growing (even if their growth has slowed down so that it's almost unnoticeable) until they are 21. That's the time when most people's wisdom teeth have come in, which is usually the last part of your physical development. Since alcohol affects non-mature bodies more and differently from adult bodies, and can even affect your growth, that's why they changed the cut off to 21.

Hey Hon,

Growth/height depends on your genetics as well as your diet. I was 5' 1" when I was 14 and I am almost 5'6" at 21.

You should grow until you are about 20, some people grow until they are 23.

If you want to be taller eat healthy, and take a look at your genetics. Smoking stunts your growth, so bear that in mind.

(1) Height is based on heredity and genetics. Look at your parents, brothers and sisters, aunts and uncles, and grandparents. How is their height compared to your present 5'1? Based on that, you should be able to ESTIMATE what your height range at close of growing might be.
(2) Based on your age and the facts of #1, you may be in a "growth spurt"--a period of sudden growth that will be forthcoming. Regardless, 5'1 is a "normal" height as opposed to falling into the dwarfism category--3'3 to approximately 4 foot. Smile--you're ok.
(3) One of the things that POSSIBLY can be done under an orthopedic's supervision (upon your request, the orthopedic will pass his advice to you and findings on to your family doctor) is to check the ACTH (growth hormone) level through a blood test. This pituitary gland is the gland that houses this hormone. It is a rather complicated process that requires breaking and stretching the muscles primarly of the legs. If it is recommended, approximately 2 years ago certain orethopedic surgeons were performing the proceedure at the University of Texas Southern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas.

How tall are your parents. You should end up about 2 inches taller than their average height. (Mom + Dad divided by 2 =2" = your adult height)

You may not get that tall or you may be taller but you won't know until you are about 26 or 27 when you stop growing.

Just so you know women are 5'- 4" on average and men are 5' - 10" in America.

You have not said if you are male or female. Either way though it is good news. You have not stopped growing yet! You have several more years to grow taller. Especially if you are a boy. Some young men (my husband for one) kept getting taller until he was 20! Be patient and have fun in your teenage years!

P.S. my daughter is a late bloomer too, she is now over 5'5 at the age of 16.

If you are over 21, will be no way. Under 21; drink more milk, jump, swim, basket ball, cycling, etc. can help. When I was 13, I was 5'2. During this year I did all I written to you in 13 years of age. When I was 15, I already 6' then I skipped all the above exercise to stop my continuese grown.

I'm 5.0 and I turned 14 also, and no, there is no way you can grow taller. It's genetics so if your parents are short, you are more likely to be short. You can get these shits to make you grow- I once saw it on t.v.

Search it on the internet or maybe you should just live with it.

If your'e a guy, I'd say the chances of you getting taller within the next year is 98 % for sure. I saw my 5' son go to 5'3" in the same year span and he's still growing.

You will reach your full height at age 18. So be patient you may still grow taller. Some people sprout up all of a sudden.
