We are to obey the law unless it makes us disobey Gods law which is a higher authority. As to marriage every state I'm aware of recognizes Christian marriage done by the church. For the Christian they take their vows before God and witnesses as a testimony of the seriousness of the vow. We are asking God to be a witness and to judge us if we break our vow. Many people live in sad relationships because they fail to keep their vows thinking they can break their vow to God and somehow still think God will bless their life. Many however struggle through the rough times only to find a joy they didn't know was their. Trust the Lord and don't lean on your own understanding.

It says to follow the laws of the land, inless they go against the Bible.Im not sure of scripture, but I will check it out, and let you know, when I have more time, im just on my way out , then I seen where you had sent me a message, and thank you for that message, i will also read up on that one to. I really enjoy the questions, and the fact that people see things different, and send me messages, that way it makes me study more to find exactly what God has to say, and to make sure its not what my family or someone has brought me up to believe it to say.

In Jesus time god's people followed the Jewish way. The bible does not give details. In OT times it was the father who did the ceremony.

Don't discriminate. The opinion of an Atheist is just as valuable and valid as a Christian's.
