Why do they put a worm at the bottom of Tequila?

The only use of the worm besides a marketing gimmick is to mask the chemical taste of poorly produced mezcal.

Its a scientific fact! If you put a worm into Tequila it dies, therefore, by scientific observation it goes to prove that people who drink tequila will never get infected by parasitic worms.

Just having fun, Tequila is never served with a worm, only Mezcal, a liquor not produced in the traditional region but which is very similar to Tequila. It's there for the decoration and for adventurous people to say "I ate the worm"

the worm represents the ones that live in the agave plant which tequila is derived from.

a) They don't, it's certain brands of MEZCAL that have a worm in the bottle.

b) That worm is there to gross out the ignorant foreigners. Mexicans never drink those low quality brands anyway.
