I have a buddy who, for some go-awful reason, tells the most ridiculous stories which are completely out of left field, then tries to drag me into the lies. Is it better to call him a moron and make him look even more retarded then he's making himself look, or should I participate and look just about as retarded as he does?

I think we should start over-exaggerating when he does that. Example:
Dan: "Remember we paid a $600 bar tab?"
Ethan: "No dude, it was $1,600!!"
David: "Yeah, Ethan and I went into cardiac arrest, and you revived us! That was crazy!"

You are a great sense of humor! Your last sentence after the last comma should be able to give you your answer. Why would you want to look like a jerk too? Is your buddy having fun with the lies he is spinning to see how much crap people will buy before they call him out on the carpet? Or is he really spinning lies because he thinks it makes him look good? B-sing for fun once in a while to see who will buy it can be funny (as long as you come clean once they start getting suspicious). To be labeled a true liar is horrible. Nobody will trust you and you will not find friends of good character. Girls/women, run from liars. Think about it and bust your friend next time. He is not being a friend trying to drag you in on it, he is merely trying to look honest because he is not the only one involved. He wants people to believe him and must think if he includes you, that they will. I had a "best friend" who I found out after trusting her for several years..that she lied and lied and lied (because sooner or later we find out) and I ended the "friendship". Good luck to you. :)

attempt to no longer get offended if he lies or push him to inform the certainty. If he lies seize him out, show him incorrect and permit it quite is, he will comprehend that no matter how lots he lies he will finally end up being found out. it truly is the important lesson quite than to no longer lie in case you get my drift. in case you tell a newborn "dont lie!"...they are going to think of..why? yet once you show to them that each and every lie would be uncovered they are going to ultimately learn that mendacity gets them no the place and it quite is lots much less complicated to in basic terms tell the certainty. actually you have got a device in place to inspire him. So if he does something naughty and lies approximately it he has to stay in his room for an hour or grounded for the weekend. If he tells the certainty if he's naughty he gets in basic terms a million/2 an hour in his room or saturday grounded working example. you may certainly have a certainty chart. If he tells the certainty 5 circumstances in a row working example he gets a handle (his universal dinner, a million/2 hour extra television, a action picture and so forth). additionally if he lies and then variations his thoughts and tells you the certainty truly compliment him, it truly is sooo important because of the fact he's changing his questioning. A tender appraoch could paintings counting on what's inflicting it. in case you already know he's mendacity dont yell or get aggravated, basically say " areyou specific it is the reason?" or "are you specific that's what you probably did" "i will provide you a huge gamble to inform me the certainty, because of the fact I won't gety offended." a reason he could lie is by using the fact he's fearful of being instructed off. while he tells the certainty, whether he's done something undesirable dont get offended, actually compliment him and tell him you're thrilled he instructed the certainty. Then as he gets extra suitable introduce harder concequences for undesirable behaviour.

If you are going to call him a moron don't do it around people. If he is your buddy he should probably stop if you tell him you don't like being dragged into his deception. If he doesn't listen and keeps doing it, call him on it in front of however he's lying to. If he's a buddy worth keeping he'll stop

Call it out for his sake, when you start lieing it starts a trend that cannot be stopped. You know he is lieing and so does everyone who is listening to him. What most lyers don't realize is that everyone knows they are lieing. But we are to polite to say anything and later we make fun of him. Is that what your friend would want? If he is your friend sit down at a quiet moment and talk to him. You have to do that with children. Let them know you love them and want to be their friend but, the lieing has to stop because it is embarrasseing to you and to those around you.. I could ignore it but I know people are making fun of you and your my friend and I want people to like you. If he gets mad and doesn't want to be your friend at least you know you tried and then everytime he lies say I know that isn't true. Eventually he will stop. Hopefully.

at the very least, deny any knowledge of whatever he is talking about. at least that way you don't make yourself
like dunderhead #2. i used to know someone who tried
this with me and when i wouldn't go along would get mad
so i started saying "sure, and if you believe all that i have
some beachfront property about a mile south of town
that is for sale." i live several hundred miles from the
nearest beach, but the idiot never caught on.

Go along with it and exaggerate further to the point of absurdity. Your friends will get a good laugh and you wont look so dumb. Also, you buddy might start to get the hint.
