Approximately 95% of the world believe in some form of deity. Many feel the need to give thanks, to ask for help when they can't handle it anymore, and for guidance. For many people, it's a form of comfort knowing there is some kind of hope someday from the worlds turmoil. It also helps to keep people in check from their corrupt desires....and believe me, we are rather corrupt, given the chance.
As for the large organized religions, due to corrupt leaders, problems have always been around. Wars have been fought in the name of religion. Huge masses of fortune have been accumulated in the name of religion (the Vatican, for example). The promises of paradise are given to people from religious leaders if they do this or do that. Terrorism is an example of this.
If you read those religious books, you can find out how far away these organized religions have gone from their truths. As quoted by Jesus..."the truth will set you free."

Really? So people getting healed of cancer is trouble? People giving up gambling is trouble? Smoking? Drinking? Cursing? Giving $ to the poor? Ceasing to beat up on their spouse?
Seems to me many of the things the Bible advocates are GOOD. The Q is, have u ever read it and prayed to God to show you truth?

To go to Heaven and live and lead a happy life with Christ in their life. They have reassurance in their life and they know it. It makes us comfortable and it helps us know that we are never alone...no matter what. They can cause trouble and they do get people criticized but for those that love Jesus so much...they don't care. They have Jesus. They reassurance. They're fine with it.

religion is the beggining of our journey of self awareness - it is a tool to be used as a stepping stone to get us to the next level of "spirituality" which will guide us in the direction of unity with our fellow man - unfortunately, not everyone makes it to the next level
