The image that immediately came to mind was of someone stopping to talk to a homeless person in a busy street. The picture in my mind's eye shows the young person and the old fellow smiling warmly and passers by blurred by motion. She is not apparently giving him anything but it is a photo of a smile shared. Only the two people are in colour - the rest is in black and white. It was a very vivid image - as if I had really seen it but I don't think I have!
In fact, it's so vivid that I am now thinking how I would set up the shot ... tripod, half second exposure (or longer), a model and a willing HP with a good smile!
Of course, it does depend what cause the poster is for - how one is expected to 'make a difference'. Mine might be one of many more or less suitable images for the purpose!

I create posters and make them available to those in need of inspiration.....usually folks who are bedridden and can only read very large type. The type may seem a little overbearing, but the posters must be read from across the room by people who are in long term care facilities and they can't sit up on their own. These people have little to do all day but think and watch. They can't change channels or control volume on electronic devices. My posters are small so that they fit easily on any hospital wall space and can be downloaded for free and printed.
To answer your question .....do something to make a difference and then document that. Show a direct result of your actions. Think of things that touch your heart. You are looking to express emmotion....whatever causes you to feel will be the easiest for you to communicate. Find a cause that is close to your heart and explore every good outcome. Show that. Look for metaphors that illustrate your cause. "Awe" pictures are usually the very young animals or children and very old folks. Look for contrasts to make a point. Think of a word statement and brainstorm it with friends to explore how many ways it can be said. Look for similes and double entendres.

Your parameters are too broad in scope. What is your agenda and who are you speaking to when you say "you can make a difference"? Are you anti harp seal clubbing? If so how about a photoshoped image of a baby harp seal hitting a Canadian fur hunter over the head with a wiffle ball bat "you can make a difference! (donate bats to harp seals)"? Are you for the use of dolphins in covert millitary operations?..if so how about superimposing flippers head on a Rambo poster, I am certain if such a creature existed, it could make a difference, though probably not a good one.

You can probably get some great ideas by looking at different charity websites (United Way, Oxfam, etc.)
Even something as simple as hands clasped or a picture of people hugging would work.

What's missing from this question are your perameters.
To me, that's a cliche line of pro bono ad copy that you could put to nearly any image, and it would force a meaning. Within what context did your instructor assign this? Share that broader context, and we may be able to give you some real help.

I don't know. But you can check out my photography website: onethousand-words.piczo.com and if you find one on there that you would like to use, hit the "Email me" button in the guestbook, write an email telling me which one you want me to email you in the full size, and give me your email address so I can send it to you. Hope you find something you like!
