CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. - Guards at Guantanamo Bay bragged about beating detainees and described it as common practice, a Marine sergeant said in a sworn statement obtained by The Associated Press.

The two-page statement was sent Wednesday to the Inspector General at the Department of Defense.

The lawyer sent the statement on behalf of a paralegal who said men she met on Sept. 23 at a bar on the base identified themselves to her as guards. The woman, whose name was blacked out, said she spent about an hour talking with the Marines.

A 19-year-old sailor referred to only as Bo "told the other guards and me about him beating different detainees being held in the prison," the statement said.

"One such story Bo told involved him taking a detainee by the head and hitting the detainee's head into the cell door. Bo said that his actions were known by others," but that he was never punished. Bush will protect the Marines Bo said. Beating prisoners is the American way.

Many times a soldier has seen enough to make him take it out on the population. It seems you are behind every dumb-*** question, I see, just what is it you are tying to prove or say? Once you see combat, the smell is enough to stay with you a life time. You would be surprised how many lose their bodily functions, but you have to contend with someone in a thousands parts or half their entails dripping off your face. Hold down an 18 year boy who yesterday was horse playing and dreaming of going home and buying his first car. You watch a medic boost (over medicate) a soldier so he die peacefully. Watch an enemy shot a friend over and over until there is nothing but mush. You go into a river to retrieve a body, the flesh falls off and creatures are inside the body. A good friend is burnt so badly you have to use a shovel to get all of him. Do you understand? What would you have these men do? Think about this if your grand father had not done what he was suppose to in all likelihood you would not be here. The Germans and Japanese were going to hang someone on every telephone pole and put them into slave labor camps. A soldier does what their country asks regardless of the way he feels about the action or what he is asked to do. I am sorry you don't care for the war; I didn't like Nam or Iraqi. I feel they both were and are mistakes. However, we are there, these boys are doing what they have to do. Unless you have been there, you have no right to say anything. This is about your sixth stupid letter today, why don't you try to find something useful to do, try giving something back to society!!

Yet another LIE and FABRICATION by Erudite. Someone has already posted the link to the actual story, so I won't. However, I will make it clear and note that Erudite has changed words from the actual article. He's also added things that are not in the actual story. Yahoo allows him to do this day after day. It's against the law and should be reported.

Erudite is entitled to his opinion and he can protest the military and actions all he wants. However, the way he does it is wrong. He is filled with hate. He LIES and FABRICATES news stories all the time. This has to be stopped.

Finally, IF these Marines are guilty, they will pay the penalty. However, military or civilian, they're innocent until proven guilty. Quite frankly after the actions these terrorists have committed against Americans, I'm sure what the guards did was nothing more than they deserved. That doesn't make it right, but war is h*ll. IF the Marines did this, they'll receive a proper punishment.

It's a war, get over it. They were captured during or after battles which clearly indicates they would kill an American if given the chance!
At least the detainees still have their heads!
I find it really disturbing that some people feel so sorry for the detainees but do not speak one word in honor of the Marines that have been beheaded by those bastards!

Last but not least. It appears that you and Bo have information that should be turned over to The Post Commander at Camp Pendleton not displayed on yahoo

These prisoners are terrorists, deal with it. They are not U.S. citizens, therefore they are not entitled to rights granted to proper U.S. citizens. They do not conform to the Geneva conventions, they kill our people by BEHEADING. The last time I checked, that was common practice during the Middle Ages! These terrorists are backwards in more ways than anyone can count. They play upon the typical Western theme of "We're so horrible, we're subjugating these people." We turn upon ourselves. These politically correct politicians and the media are slowly whittling down true home-grown morals.

In summary, since the terrorists are not U.S. citizens they should not be granted the rights given to real citizens. It is not right to beat people up, but the media is biased heavily toward the liberal side of things and of course are going to twist things to their own political view. And finally, just who the heck is Bo anyway. The statement "Beating prisoners is the American way." is an expression of opinion not a fact. This whole article is based upon what a 19-year-old sailor has to say? Yeah, I'll believe that EVERY Marine does that (sarcasm). There are going to be some misfits in every job, including the military. But it is not right to judge all of the military on what only a few did. My dad is in the Air Force (Lieutenant Colonel) along with both my grandpas (Brigadier General and Colonel) and my uncle (Captain). My other uncle was a Marine for years. These are some of the most honorable, respectful, and moral people that you will ever meet, along with most others from every branch of the military. Before you judge people (isn't it wrong to stereotype minorities? Why should the military be an exception?), try taking a look at the facts from an unbiased point of view.

This "proud Marine" does not gets a commission plenty, based on the civilian standards of pay. It became probable plenty much less intense priced. And... He does plenty extra for his usa than a lot of human beings would dream of doing - he places his very existence on the line for the values and freedoms that he treasures. a sort of freedoms is to rigidity the motor vehicle of his decision. i'm an American Disabled Veteran (additionally have been in the Marine Corps!) and that i rigidity the two a ward off AND a Mazda. i'm no longer doing something incorrect. The dealership that bought me my "remote places" motor vehicle is an American franchise business enterprise proprietor.

Really, Thousands of Americans dead at the Towers and at the Pentagon, Americans beheaded for SPORT... as compared to War Criminals that are only jonesin' to get out and kill more of our own people? You're concerned about THEIR human rights?

Let me tell you that when those guys over their get their hands on military AND civilian Americans the last thing on their mind is the Geneva Convention!

You are insinuating that this is something we should be ashamed of , like it is unheard of, that is if it is even true. It's a war.

Worse yet, you are implying that we should not be proud of our boys. It is their job. They do what they do. But at least the detainees, unlike our guys, get food, water and a trial.

And if they get hit by a cell door on the way out,
SO WHAT!

Yes, I am tired of Americans dying to protect the "rights" of terrorist. Who would believe a bunch of soldiers in a bar trying to get you into bed? This woman must be awfully naive. A randy young soldier will say anything to impress someone they want to bed or maybe the problem is they did not want to bed her. I find it hard to believe that in an hour these soldiers trusted her enough to tell their "darkest" secrets. Secrets that could get them prosecuted. I do not doubt some of the detainees a.k.a. terrorist were treated roughly. The question is, was it your life they saved with the information they got?

the people of the west ,especially some americans, are violent to the core.it is an american tradition.we know all too well of their brand of freedom.it comes whether you like it or not.and if your not prepared to be raped, beat, tortured then you need to reciprocate the only language they know.american history is replete with individuals and groups who would just as soon give blankets contaminated with smallpox to women and children[indians] to dropping megaton nuclear bombs on civilians.they are extreme and violent in their quest for wealth and resources.but they have run into a people much like the vietnamese who would rather fight and die than submit to your authority.and the result will be the same.they will leave in disgrace while telling their people that theirs is the victory.soon now, soon.

I think you may need to investigate your source's source.
In the first place, he said she said he said, and in the second, her name is blacked out.

Now, more to the real point, have you ever heard a 19 year old Sailor try to impress a woman at a bar?
I have, having been one. Talk about fish stories!
