Ice cream is actually very easy to make. Technically, you don't even need an ice cream maker, although it is recommended that you do use one. If you are using an ice cream maker, there are two major types: The first one uses a container of ice and salt (to lower the melting temperature) with a canister full of ingredients sitting inside. This canister turns either by hand crank or motor. The second type of maker uses a freezer bowl (a metal bowl that is filled with a gel) that you freeze and then fill with ingredients. This sits on a motorized base and spins while plastic equipment sits inside to keep the ice cream circulated. In order to make ice cream, all you must do is follow a simple recipe (some may consist only of heavy cream, sugar, and vanilla). You mix the ingredients and then pour them into a prepared ice cream maker. If you don't have one, you can sit a small metal or glass bowl inside a larger one filled with ice and salt, then fill the small one with your ingredients. You will have to mix constantly though!
