Flashcards, repeatedly writing them down over and over again, and using them to write.

That depends on you. Different people have different ways of learning things.
If you like to learn visually, use flashcards. If you like to learn auditorily, make up a little verbal mnemonic that can help you to remember the shapes of the characters. If you like to learn by moving, do a dance that will help you remember the shapes, and so forth. Take advantage of the ways that you already like to learn.

flash cards...and also write them everywhere ya go. ^^
Just remember remember and remember.
Also you can relate the symbol to a picture...ex. the symbol for 'shi' looks like long hair...so you can say 'she' has long hair.
