Hi i have a sharp viewcam Z and got video on small tape of new baby son and was wanting to put this to a dvd so i purchased a Sharp Camcorder Firewire DV IEEE1394 4-4 Cable which is dv on camera and i have a dv port on laptop but i have no software for this to sense a connection whats the best software to use?

Adobe Premiere is probably the best, but it's not the most user friendly. Adobe also has a more consumer friendly version - Premiere Elements. There are many video editing softwares. Here's a list from PC Magazine.

Hope your lap top can handle these program(s). I got frustrated using programs to edit and just burn it directly to a DVD recorder for the TV using the firewire etc. This was the easiest for me. Hope this helps, good luck!

If you have windows operating system then you must have windows muvee maker provided free of cost. and may be it is set as default program. as soon as you connect your mini dv camcorder to your PC the windows muvee maker will identify and open.
Otherwise you can check in your porgrams.
this is very easy to do with windows muvee maker

Go for Pinnacle Studio. Its cheaper than Adobe and easier to use.

I use Pinnacle Studio, and find it easier than Premiere, but its what I'm used too.
