What is your background? Depends on the situation...if for a job you say the previous employments and work you preformed, details only when asked. What computer programs used, equipment-cash register or copy machine and the positions you held.
For volunteer work, you would explain what volunteer work you have done previously, jobs you held pertaining to the volunteer work to be had, years of experience, what you did from posters, to fund raising, level of involvement.

What do you do professionally? Depends...If answering someone in an IM or in chat, them be short to the point; mention the industry, not the exact. For instance school teacher, or administrative. Not what grade, nor where or company.
If for a job...STUPID question cause that’s why your there any way, but I have been asked this in an interview. State the obvious, if you have been doing admin/secretary work and interviewing for it, then state that you work in the admin field and specialize in blank, blank and blank. Insert computer programs you know very well. Excel, power point etc. Being a professional at something is something you do well, know inside and out, and enjoy doing and want to do more.

The key is to know whose asking. Why do they want to know? Unless you are being interrogated by an officer, you do not divulge any information that is not pertinent to the individual or need.

Don't tell a job interviewer about family history unless they previously worked for the company, but nothing about drama! They don't need to know about the crazy holiday schedule of friends and family visiting.

Not knowing the situation for this question other than it’s in the singles and dating realm, I would not give out information unless vague as mentioned above. Especially on the puter. If in person, on a date, be vague at first, then once comfy with them, and then you may add more but not all at once.

I answer questions from the experiences of a long life. I have been through marriage and divorce, child custody battle, a long recovery from divorce, and in different dating relationships.

My background is Midwestern farm-country values, but I have lived in several states around the nation.

I teach. I have taught at 5 different schools from poor to wealthy and all white to all black. I have had experiences with so many students and their home situations that help me understand how others feel.
