No it's not cruel. If you got the cat when he was a baby kitten ,he does'nt no any better. Show alot of attention but most of all love. My cat is an indoor cat and he's 12 yrs. old now. He's a well adjusted cat and so will your's be. Lots of Love and you'll have a happy cat.

As long as the cat gets plenty of human attention (which should always be the case anyway for a pet), I wouldn't say it is cruel for a cat to be alone--in fact, some cats prefer to be one-cat-household cats, and they get pissy when there is even one other cat around. It is based more on context and the cat's personality than any general rule of thumb I would say.

Funny enough a cat doesn't need to have other cats around for company. They enjoy the time to themselves and like being the only ones who get attention. They are smart little creatures and can entertain themselves easily. So no, it isn't cruel. If you still feel bad, buy a fish in a fishbowl. this provides long periods of entertainment. LOL.

No.... cats don't live in social groups normally as long as you are there and take care of the cats needs there is no cruelty in it. Have you ever seen a cat welcome a new cat to the house?? I doubt it all cats intially hate a new addition and it takes time for them to accept a new cat. Even then they may never like each other... out of my 4 cats only 2 are friends with each other, the rest merely tolerate each others presence because they all want my companionship. Cats don't want other cats as friends they want people as friends.

No I had a single cat for a while and I used to leave the tv or radio on for her. Two cats however are happier and live longer. Must be the lick baths for each other.

Cruel, no. Lonely, perhaps. I've always heard cats do better in pairs, but my sister only has one, and it does fine. She leaves the stereo on for noise, and it has a lot of toys/food/water, and is very happy. But my no means is is "cruel".

No. I think cats have more attitude and are much more adaptable than dogs. I have a cat that only comes when she's hungry or when she wants to be loved on and she is perfectly happy.

Not necessarily. Cats are very independent animals and do not need the companionship of another cat like a dog does.

No, not at all. Cats are by nature solitary. They were domesicated from wild cats...all solitary. I have two cats and they can't stand one another. They both do their own thing and are just happy to be with their owners.

Cats are not herd animals, they tend to be very solitary. Give him attention when he wants it, make sure all his needs are met, and he'll be happy as a clam! Plus, cats sleep 20+ hours a day-they could give a crap who's around.
