I would say my dog, but then again every dog owner would have the same answer. All dogs are great, there is no such thing as a bad dog only bad owners.
In my opinion the Labrador Retriever is one of the best breeds. The breed has to match your personality and fit your life style. I have owner all sorts of dogs but have totally fallen in love with the Labs. They are so loving and affecionate, and so versatile. My Lab is your typical fun loving, intelligent yet goofy Lab. They just love everyone and everything and especially adore their master.

Depends on you and your life style. If you are active you might look into breeds that have an abundant energy so you both can work out together.
Beagles, Jack russells, westies, Aussie, boarder collies are a few
breeds that come to mind.
If you like a laid back dog, bull mastiffs, bull dogs, gray hounds,
Saint Bernard's, Burmese mountain dog.
What ever you do investigate the breed standerds prior to purchasing. This way you will pick the right dog for you.!

It's better to adopt a dog because you give it a second chance at living a better life with a "caring" owner.
If you were to get a dog of your own, i prefer a golden retriever. They are very friendly dogs. Labs are fine too.

I would have to say Boston Terriers. They are very smart, loving and loyal dogs. They make great watch dogs and are very protective. I have two and they are just the best in my opinion. Bostons are very active and love to run and play..but they can adapt easily to your environment.

It depends on the conditions in which you plan to keep the dog. House, apartment, fenced yard, no yard, kids, other pets, etc. Go to your local shelter, explain your conditions to them, take any other dogs or children with you, they will assist you in finding just the right addition to your home.

First research what kind of dog is best for you. Dont get one just because its cute. I have a schnauzer who gets along great with my husband, and a lab/german shepard mix thats great with me. So really it depends on personality and life style.

Lets put it this way;
You might get away with insulting a guys wife, or a guys car, but people have died for insulting a guys dog.
