ok...this guy likes me, and he told me up front in english class today. hes not my type in any way, and hes kinda creepy, but then really nice too. but i only like him as a friend nothing more than that, how can i let him down easy so i dont hurt him to much?

Just tell him that you like him as a friend. There's no easy way to say it. You're not being kind by not telling him -- giving him false hope & the longer you wait, the harder it will be to tell him.

I think your idea to be nice is really positive. Think how you would feel if you opened up to someone and how you would like them to treat your vulnerable feelings. Perhaps you could suggest that the two of you go somewhere where it is private enough to talk and you could let him talk to you about himself for awhile and you could talk to him about yourself awhile. Just getting through it in a hallway or after class is sort of quick and easy considering he went out on a limb to speak up to you. Maybe at least give him a few private moments to talk to you and perhaps teach him a bit about a better time and place to express his feelings to people. He did`t just do this to show off to someone hopefully, why would he take such a risk? Still be kind, then more guys will see you as approachable and you may hear from one you are interested in soon...

You could tell him that you like him, but as a friend only. Be honest, but not hurtful because you never know when the tables may turn. It's a tough spot to be in but better to face it soon because the longer it goes without you saying anything, he may get the wrong impression.

Just be friendly,but not 2 friendly.If he asks u out,or pushes it,tell him that he's a great friend,and u don't wanna mess that up.
I had a friend that's the same way.I know this guy's not really a friend 2 u yet,but this is a good story.
Well,my friend,Clay,asked me out,and it was awful.I just kept acting friendly with him.And I told him that I didn't wanna ruin our friendship with dating.If this guy's a good person,he'll understand.

He told you he likes you, telling him straight up isn't going to kill him on the inside.
Just be nice when you tell him.
Maybe invite him out with you this weekend to hang out, so you could still be friends and he won't feel awkward.

You have no control over his feelings. So, just tell him. If he is hurt, that is his choice. He would probably be greatful to know as soon as possible.

the exact thing just happened to me.. TWICE!! but on my birthday he gave me a note & a teddy bear.. in the note he asked me out & i said i had a boyfriend (i didn't no what 2 say either) & the other boy i said i didn't want a boyfriend right now, but in a polite tone!
