I'm going out on a limb here because most lactation consultants will recommend this as an absolute last resort if you've tried everything else and it doesn't work (which is what happened to me). There is a medication called domperidone (another name is motillium) which some breastfeeding mothers use to produce more milk without any side effects to the mother or baby. Increased lacation is actually a side benefit of the drug. It is usually used for nausea and certain cases of reflux. I used it with both babies and it worked very well. Feel free to research it on the Internet. I bought mine from http://www.globaldrug.tv/. It is shipped from New Zealand and takes about a week to arrive. They do not require a prescription. You could also go to your OB and ask for a prescription for Reglan which is legal in the US, but it might possibly make you very very fatigued which is what it did for me.

If you need any more information feel free to contact me.

I was only able to breast feed for 3 months, I could not keep up with the demands. As for your son refusing the bottle, have you tried different nipple styles? Grant it, my two are 9 and 8 so it has been a while since I breast or bottle feed a child, but I remember that there were different styles of nipples out there. Also, is the formula. is it too hot or too cold?

I was always told yeast helps produce milk, try drinking a beer.

It's very rare for a mom not to have enough milk. Remember that women breastfed exclusivly up until around the 19th century. As long as you are feeding on demand that is most likely not the problem. He may be teething, have a cold, or just need more sleep. You should see a lactation consultant just in case. Good luck and congratulations for breastfeeding as long as you have.

sometimes you have to stop because you dry up, thats what happened to me at about 4 1/2 months,

Sorry.

Good Luck, Your baby will take the formula once he gets hungry enough! Try supplamenting while you still have a little bit ( 1/2 breast in a bottle 1/2 formula) So he can get used to the new taste.

ask your doctor if there is anything you can do to increase your milk supply. also is he eating baby food yet? There is an over the counter pill you can take that will help increase your milk. I took it when I was breastfeeding my son and it worked a little to well I don't remember the name of it but my doctor told me about it. I'm sure yours will know. If you can't ask the doctor then ask the pharmacist at your local drug store. They are very knowledgeable.

you need to see a lactation consultant. at around 6 months babies often have a growth spurt and it may seem that you son't have enough milk, but after a few days your breasts will make enough. if this has been going on for a while then you need to make an apointment with your doctor or a lactation consultant.

There is one thing. BreastFeed until your milk is all gone. And he will take the bottle and he will like it! I breastfeed my daughter until she was 8 months old. And same with my 2 daughters. My oldest, Diana, thought it was gross and my middle child Cody didnt even know what i was doing with my youngest. Chelsie is her name but she is 3 right now.

Try eating lots of veggies (fresh greens), and eat things with natural fats in them such as avocados, olive oil, nuts, etc. so that at least the milk he gets is quality milk. Have him try to nurse as often as possible so that you can rebuild your milk supply. Hopefully this will work for you.

I'm not a consultant, but I sure spent a lot of time with one when my daughter was a baby. Drink more water and juice. Then let him nurse for as long as he wants to. Once he demands more, you should produce more.

ask your OB about a prescription for Reglan. Its a reflux/stomach medication, but the side effect is great milk production :) I had to take it b/c my daughter was in NICU for 60 days and i was pumping and my supply got really low.. it doesnt work for everybody but it worked WONDERS for me.. it does make you really tired at first but your body adjusts in a week or so. eventually i was able to wean off of it easily too , yet still have the milk.
