I was told I was bi polar took many different medications that just turned me into a zombie. I stopped taking the medications but still fight my anxiety issues daily. I am just wondering how many people are told they are bi polar and really are not.

Thanks :)

Again as an RN...I firmly believe this is an over used diagnosis!!!

Just as ADD, Dementia, and sooo many more!!!

As for the anxiety issue...Did ya' doc' give ya' an RX for that???
IE: A low dose tranquilizer???

Tranquilizers in low doze...Appropriate usage and, time...Can do wonders for anxiety...Be careful not to abuse, as "can" be addicting!!!

Most people that are bi-polar are in denial about it. They usually think that everyone else around them has a problem, not them. Also, it is very hard to diagnose anyone as bi-polar, unless it is severe, which would make it obvious. Not only that, but it could take several medications before finding the right one for you. For something as serious as this, I would definitely get a second and maybe a third opinion. You don't want to be diagnosed wrong and it is definitely not healthy for you to be taking those kinds of drugs for nothing.

Yup, and they were using me as a guinea pig. Took a whole bunch of bulls**t medications. None of them did anything and now that I look back I realize that there is no way that I was really bi-polar, just HUMAN. If your gut tells you that you are not bi-polar, then go with your instinct. Also get as many 2nd opinions as possible without telling them that another doctor told you were bi-polar.

Well if you are bi polar you probably aren't going to believe it anyway

most people want to believe they have a problem so they can take meds and have an excuse for being depressed and lazy.

I don't think I am. I just told the doctor that I sometimes feel mad, and sometimes feel sad. Then he gives me a garbage diagnosis.

I thought a range of emotions was healthy. And Normal.

It is best to get a second opinion. Don't tell the new doctor what the other one said.
