I believe the Philippines and Hawaii are where you will find the greatest consumption of SPAM. During WW II, meat was hard to come by. Canned SPAM was the only item available. Since then it has become a tradition with many recipes utilizing local ingredients. SPAM is made from pork. If you look at a can and read the ingredients you will see no crap.

Spam is a shortened name for Spiced Ham. Therefore, it is pork. Extremely high in salt content, but great for camping trips in pancakes or in sandwiches. Since it was developed for the armed forces a million years ago, I'm sure they still eat it too!
