High school students do have the option. You can either go to school or you can drop out. The consequences of going to school is that you get an education and have a better shot at achieving your potential. The consequences of dropping out is that you don't. (Plus you could get arrested for truancy, get kicked out of your house, and have a hugely increased chance of spending much of your youth in prison and/or on drugs).
But go ahead. You choose.

I feel that if a student wishes not to attend school then they should not have to. However, there should be a place, ie Juvie, where they are required by law to report to and stay there durring the duration of school. Ankle braclets and what not would be worn at all times.
You can work and go to school at the same time, it's called Co-Op...
For those who work to help support a family, then they should work from 8 to past 4.
Summer is for working, the rest of the time is for getting an education to better your life. Unless you know how to read and write, there is little that you will get to experience.
Therefore, No, I do not feel that a person under the age of 18 should be allowed to choose whether they will go to school or not, unless there is a definite financial reason.
Plus, once you drop-out and choose to get your GED or finish, you will have to pay... instead of getting it for free.... How about that

well of course u can start working... but you wont be making enough to live onyour own or have a family... unless u work harder and longer then the average joe! but you should really stay in school cause it's worth it when u fill out a aplication... when u say u dont have a high school diploma it just looks bad and people may think you will not work hard to succeed.. ya know?

To be honest, would any kid choose to go to school if they had the choice? No. I'm afraid to say. It is imperative that kids go to school if not to learn book stuff but for the social interaction if anything. I played baseball, football, worked 30 some hours and went to school and I turned out completely homicidal, I mean sane! :-)

No, because quitting just puts you on the road to quitting everything else that seems too difficult, boring, or hard. Freedom of choice should come with age and maturity, and has to be earned and learned. If I had been given the option of quitting, I would never have finished, myself.
