I think the world pays attention to it... and I think most people would like to do something to help. But the problem seems so big and governments are so corrupt (especially those of third world countries) that one feels like there is not much you can do. If you give money away, it will most likely be pocketed by some president in some country or be taken away a little bit at a time so that only maybe 3 cents out of a dollar actually reaches the people. If the government isn't willing to help its own people, and doesn't allow free market economy to grow and businesses to thrive so that the people can take care of themselves, then there's little we can do..... Charity is not a solution. It's a band-aid until something more permanent can be done. And since we feel there's little we can do, we ignore it and try not to think of it much.

The world no.
Secularist no.
American Christian groups yes. The Baptists alone give 334 million a year toward protecting children around the world. Feeding clothing and sheltering. Also Methodist, Jewish,
The Christian Childrens Fund 205 million last year
Salvation Army, Tens of millions
Samaritians purse, Tens`s of millions
Christmas Child, over 100 million
etc., etc.,
Also average American military families give also.
US Army Toys for Tots, 10`s of millions
US Marine corp Toys for Tots, 10`s of millions
etc.,
And our own Government gives
US State Dept, 87 million
US Dept of etc. etc. millions and millions

The list goes on and on but you won`t find secular groups on it.
Bar none the America religious groups give far more than the rest of the world combined.

No. Many children under 5 years old die every day from bad water. We currently need about $84 billion per year to stop Starvation and childhood disease in our world. In our world we spend about $20 billion per year. The Iraq war will cost working class tax payers over $2 trillion in ten years. We have a $9 trillion national debt.
BTW, 44 million Americans have no basic Health Insurance and half are Women and children.

the world is paying too much attention. Yes it is unfortunate that these children exist. But it is the parents fault. If they cant afford to raise their children i dont care what country they are from then that is the parents problem. I wouldnt have kids if i couldnt afford to raise them. That is just stupid. It is their own fault and they should deal with it. I am sick of paying my hard earned tax money to go to poor people. Maybe i should do like they do. Ill just stop working and let the government pay for my children to grow up. how does that sound

Probably not. But here's what I think: There wouldn't be so many children in poverty if PEOPLE WOULD QUIT HAVING CHILDREN WHEN THEY HAVE NO BUSINESS PRECREATING!! It really burns my *** that just anybody can bring a kid into the world, whether they can afford it or not. Dammit, I'd love more kids, but I'd rather be able to afford to take care of the two I have, so I USE BIRTH CONTROL.

Now I'll apologize for venting -- isn't aimed at you, since you are just doing your project. If you are polling people, though, there's my two cents' worth.

Of course not, they are too busy in political deals, and War to notice. Children in Poverty ranks down there with the environment. Because a lot of ignorant people believe that it's a lifestyle, when people dont have a choice.

I don't think the children are being payed attention to period. Look at the children that are in poverty and they are neglected and abused........ the states are out for the MOTHERS rights and to protect the mother, its not about the children anymore and protecting them or taking care of them. And look at all the 5 yr olds and up in age kids that are carring guns, distributing drugs..... and claiming to be ......... supporting themselves and protecting their family.... the thugs that got them in there in the first place......... NO, no i do not think that the world is paying enough attention to children in poverty, but I don't think the world is paying enough attention to ALL our children PERIOD point blank. BLessed be..............

poverty? yeah right

we're more worried about celebrities and the lives they live. we're more worried about big corporations ripping people off, exploiting the mute. we're more into getting fat and dying before our time. we're more worried about athletes making big bucks, and the price of tix going up so that we (fans) can pay for it. we really care about war, killing innocent people and ruining another country, knowing damn well that they can't do nothing about it. we're worried about an old woman brining a bottle of water onto a plane and labeling her as a terrorist. or public transportation being horrible yet the fares continue to increase. children and poverty? no thats not important. not now

I think everyone is self centered just about in our world today, who go to bed with their belly's full, while so many innocent children are starving,we must step up and start taking care of everyone, especially the children, because the children are the future, who will lead this nation forward,as leaders of tomorrow.
